Who doesn’t love the feeling of pampering themselves and arousing their senses on any given day? Well we are all in luck because the Kansas City-based company, Mixture (mixtureusa.com), offers a wide array of products that will help you to indulge your body’s deepest needs and enhance your household.
When they launched in the spring of 2008, the company started with a clear-cut philosophy of providing each customer with the best products possible. They also wanted to keep a focus on the environmental footprint that Mixture would leave behind. At first the company’s basis was to just produce candles to fill a niche of another business that was owned by the same business partners. Within months they found that this new venture was being received better than they ever imagined.
"Starting a business in one of the worst economic times since the depression was a risk. Our first decisions were what products to offer, what fragrances to offer and how we were going to create a package that can tell our story," says Dan DeLeon, principal of Mixture.
After sifting through over 350 fragrances, the heads of the company decided on an inaugural 18. They chose what products they were going to offer and came up with eight different ones. Growth happened for them quickly. As of today, Mixture offers 66 difference fragrances and 48 different products. Their packaging is unique to their company; they make sure that it is clean and green. It also tells the story about who they are, and what they do.
"Almost four years into this now, we still reflect every day on how fortunate we are to have people like our products. This does not mean we are without some major challenges such as growth and product development," says DeLeon. Other major challenges the company faces (like many start-up companies) are cash flow, what products they make, their inventory levels, getting ingredients for the best price and how to deal with specific trends.
Mixture keeps up-to-date with the latest social media outlets. They are most active on Facebook, and feel that social media is a great way to advertise for free as well as keep an up-to-the-minute stream of the latest information. Mixture uses Facebook to reach out to their followers and ask their opinions on products and packaging or help resolve any differences of opinion. "In my opinion," says DeLeon, "social media is better than any advertising that money can buy. It is current, it is ‘now’ and most of all, it’s free!"
Mixture has a broad range of clientele; serving customers in their early 20’s up to their 80’s, in part because their products are geared towards a wide-variety of consumers. The consistency between all clientele is that their customers are committed to purchasing environmentally conscience products that are made right here in the USA. DeLeon says, "One of the reasons that we chose soy wax for some of our products was because it is a sustainable, renewable resource that is produced on the land of our American farmers, this helps keep the cycle of America moving forward." Mixture now has a distribution channel of over 800 accounts across the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Panama and even stretching as far away as Japan. Mixture encourages all of their customers to support their local stores.
Mixture’s hopes for the future are to achieve a heightened awareness of making choices that reflect what they can do to make the world a better place. They do so by being conscious about making the right choices of when and where to buy their products. The future will also bring customers the best green products possible, all while having fun making, selling, and for you the customer: using them!
